It will examine the issues that are calling into question the thesis of the "transformation" from ancient to medieval times, the problem of borders as a key to understanding issues that are also addressed in relation to our contemporaneity, to the mode of re-establishment of urbanism at the turn of the first millennium also for areas compared, largely on the basis of the most recent archaeological acquisitions in different European and the Mediterranean regions.

Acceptable knowledge of the Latin language and a foreign language.
Teaching Methods
Lectures, short monographic seminar (with participation of specialized PhD research or on their topics), workshops (archaeology of production, Archaeomatic), Seminars (Light Archaeology, Public Archaeology) and on field (excavations, surveys).

Course program
Time and space: peculiar dimensions of archeology; also for the construction of models of historical interpretation. Border areas, frontiers as an observation point to define historical identities for comparison. The age of transition: the definition of a classic, historical interpretation for a Middle Ages caught in the long run. The contribution of the archaeological point of view for a classic historiography theme. Reversing the perspective practiced, the moment of transition from the ancient world is addressed as 'seen' from the Middle Ages. The theme of the temporal 'borders' temporal is analised in a series so early that late medieval. An intense, recent season of archaeological research, with renewed methodology, reported topical documentary on a new basis, a whole theme that seemed to run out. But the reference is to a selected context of recent archaeological records in different Euromediterranean contexts, tend to reading the 'long term'.
